Leadership

The following men were recommended by Pastor Mark and affirmed as elders by the church body of FBC, The Colony, TX on Sunday, March 19, at the church family forum.  These are men who love and support Pastor Mark, the local church body, and have pledged to lead, feed, and protect the flock from division and deception both from within and from without.  Praise God!

Elder

I have the desire to be an elder and to help protect the unity and integrity of the church, to serve and help strengthen the body; to be a beacon of light in The Colony. Above all, remain a Bible-based, God-following church, through biblical teachings and against man-made traditions and popular culture trends. Romans 12:4-5 states, “For as in one body we have many members,[e] and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”   The church went though many changes the last couple of years, providing different challenges along the way.  Our faith, integrity and devotion to our Lord and Savior will be tested more and more as the world chooses to serve idols and we choose to serve Jesus Christ.  Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

When pastor Mark was preaching through 1 Timothy, the Lord started moving in my heart regarding being an elder.  My wife and I  came with a heart to serve as the Lord calls us and I am answering the call to step up as an elder.  For me to step up for this will stretch me in ways I may not fully understand right now because I do not know completely what will be required of me, but nevertheless I am here to serve.
In my heart I want to see the Lord rebuild this Church and have it grow again.  We have everything we need, the property, the building and a whole area for the youth and probably other things I don’t even know about; we just need the growth to begin. I would like to see our Church reach-out to the community regularly in witnessing and visitation to carry out the Lord’s Great Commission to spread the Gospel.   I think we can help develop our church body to be prepared when they are asked about their faith and when they feel the Lord leading them to share their faith.   As the Lord said “Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.”   Also I believe there is a great potential for growth in the worship team that could really connect with the church body.

Elder

I desire to serve as an elder because I see First Baptist as a remnant church and I know there are others out there looking for the same type and real church that I was looking for.  I want to try to figure out a way to let those people know that we are here at First Baptist.  I want to be part of growing the church and finding those that are looking for a real church and/or reach out to those that don’t know that they aren’t in a solid church just yet.  I also think we should teach and stress going back to being a 1st century church where the church members didn’t just go to a meeting on Sunday and then just go on their weekly routine.  The 1st century church depended on each and felt comfortable going to each other for help and support.  They were a family, not just a building to go to and hear something about God. I think as things are going now that it may not be in the too far away future that we may only have each other to depend on, like the 1st century church.  I want us to feel like family and to reach out to others that are looking for truth and support.
